The ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States is beginning to disrupt global energy markets. As tensions rise in the Middle East and shipping routes become increasingly risky, Russia has reportedly indicated that it is ready to divert crude oil supplies to India to prevent potential shortages.

Middle East Conflict Disrupting Oil Supply

The crisis intensified after military strikes and retaliation across the region led to severe disruption in maritime routes. One of the most critical oil routes in the world, the Strait of Hormuz, has seen a sharp decline in shipping activity due to security concerns.

This narrow waterway handles a significant portion of global oil shipments, and any disruption can quickly affect global fuel prices and energy supply chains.

Because of these risks, many oil tankers have slowed or stopped movement through the region.

Russia Offers Alternative Supply To India

According to reports citing industry sources, Russia is prepared to redirect millions of barrels of crude oil to India if Middle Eastern supplies become unstable.

Around 9.5 million barrels of Russian crude oil are reportedly already positioned near Indian waters and could be delivered within weeks if needed.

Russia has also indicated it could increase exports of both crude oil and natural gas to Asian markets to help offset disruptions caused by the conflict.

Why India Could Need Russian Oil

India is the third-largest oil consumer in the world, and a major portion of its crude imports comes from the Middle East.

Roughly half of India’s imported crude oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz, making the country vulnerable to supply disruptions during regional conflicts.

To avoid shortages and price spikes, Indian officials are reportedly exploring alternative suppliers, including Russia.

Global Energy Markets Under Pressure

The ongoing war has already created uncertainty in global energy markets. Analysts warn that prolonged disruption in Middle Eastern shipping routes could lead to higher oil prices and supply shortages.

Countries like India and China are therefore exploring alternative energy partnerships to maintain stable supplies.

Experts say Russia’s willingness to redirect oil shipments could help stabilize Asian energy markets if the crisis continues.
